The Heathrow Cargo Challenge returns for the 13th year, providing Year 6 students with a free half-day experience.
The Cargo Challenge (formerly the Primary School Challenge) invests in over 50 schools in Ealing, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Slough, South Buckinghamshire, Spelthorne, and Windsor & Maidenhead. It is linked to the curriculum and has been established to inspire the next generation to consider a career at the airport.
This Challenge is an enjoyable way for 10 and 11-year olds to explore their enterprise skills, develop social and personal skills and encourage team working and communication skills.
It also provides an enjoyable way for Year 6 pupils to explore roles at the airport developing the core Heathrow World of Work skills:
What is the Heathrow Cargo Challenge all about?
During the 2-hour challenge, pupils work in teams to help Heathrow deliver aid to a disaster zone. Helped by several Heathrow colleagues, pupils choose what cargo to send, how to get the cargo to the airport sustainably, and design and write coding programs to get the cargo to the planes efficiently.
The challenge brings the curriculum to life and encourages pupils to aim high by thinking creatively, reasoning systematically, and working collaboratively.
Next year, Heathrow will be launching new, exciting programmes so make sure you visit our website for more information.
