Local Community Information
The independent Airports Commission has recommended that Heathrow should be allowed to expand. We have set out what happens next, and what this means for our neighbours.
The Government is now in the process of deciding whether to accept the Commission’s recommendation and have recently said they expect to make a decision in September and we will be urging them to stick this timeline.
In December, the Government requested additional evidence before making a final decision on whether to approve expansion in the summer of 2016.
In its Final Report, the Airports Commission set out a series of conditions that Heathrow should meet should expansion be approved. After considering the Report, and undertaking further analysis, Heathrow has committed to meeting and, in many cases, exceeding these conditions.
As we wait for an announcement from the Government on its consideration of the Airports Commission’s recommendations, we recognise that this process has resulted in a time of significant uncertainty for local residents.
Alongside our public meetings and consultations, we have written to local residents who would be most affected by Heathrow expansion to keep them fully updated.
Our latest Community Bulletin can be found here.
If the Government support expansion at Heathrow, we would then have to apply for, and obtain, planning consent before a new runway could be built.
