Heathrow celebrated its 70th anniversary yesterday and Twitter erupted with happy birthday wishes – including a Tweet from British astronaut Tim Peake in space! From airlines,to airports, celebrities, The Red Arrows and more – we’ve compiled some of the great tweets from yesterday below!

70 plaques around the airport launched by Joanna Lumley

British icon Joanna Lumley was on hand to kick-off the celebrations yesterday morning by helping launch 70 plaques around the airport commemorating significant moments at the UK’s hub.

Joanna herself features in the plaque series for her journey to Nepal in 2009, via Heathrow, to campaign for Gurkhas who fought for Britain in World War II, to be allowed to settle in Britain.

Qantas helps celebrate by giving away 70 flights
